Science Meets Craft to Create Collectible Art in Stowe, Vermont
Stowe, Vermont (PRWEB) June 16, 2007 -- Everyone is invited to discover the allure of kaleidoscopes at the 7th Annual Vermont Kaleidoscope Festival. Kaleidoscopes evolved from a 190-year old scientific discovery and are considered collectibles today. Stowe Craft and Design hosts the event at its Design Center on Route 100 in Stowe Village; it is free and open to the public. This year's event highlights handmade kaleidoscopes by artist Marc Tickle and features many contemporary American artists and craftspeople.
The festival runs Saturday, July 7, 10am-6pm and Sunday, July 8, 10am-3pm. Come Friday evening, July 6 from 5pm-7pm for a preview and wine-and-cheese reception with Marc and the host staff. A tent will be set up all weekend for the outdoor activities. The event takes place at Stowe Craft & Design which is at the junction of Routes 100 and 108 in Stowe, Vermont.
Features include basic kaleidoscope-making activities for adults and kids, demonstrations, discussions, kaleidoscope viewing and sales. Grab a checklist, vote for your favorite scope, and become eligible to win one!
Festival host Stephen Fishman says, ?Marc Tickle is one of America's top contemporary kaleidoscope artists. One of his unique techniques is he sculptures glass with a torch creating bugs, flowers and baubles to put inside his kaleidoscopes. He will be on hand to answer questions and demonstrate his glass-working techniques.?
The festival is Vermont's largest collection of kaleidoscopes. Visitors to the Stowe, Vermont festival will be able to see and look through kaleidoscopes ranging from tiny necklace scopes to large parlor creations. Old favorites as well as the new and unique will also be available for viewing and sale.
Those who want to share in the activities but cannot attend may participate online, says artist and store manager Kelly Bowden: ?Visit our web site. I will put the latest items and pictures of the activities online daily during the festival. And if you have questions for the kaleidoscope maker, Marc Tickle, e-mail us. I'll post his answers? Collectibles - Interesting And Unique Items For Your Home Decor
A collectible is defined as any manufactured item that was intended for people to collect. They are different from other types of collections such as natural collections (butterflies, insects) or collections of items made for other purposes (stamps, coins). Some items that were not originally manufactured as collectibles gain so much popularity with collectors that they are later marketed as collectibles. Toys are a good example of this type of product.
