Wrack & Ruin Makes Digital Content Cool and Collectible

Australia (PRWeb) December 18, 2006 -- A new patent filed by MTOMIC is set to demolish digital content and make it harder to come by - all in the name of making it "cool" and collectible.

The patent applies scarcity and physical wear and tear to digital items, including both usage stress (such as dead pixels, dog eared images and dropped notes) and location-based environmental stress (such as icing up, burnt edges and added sound effects). The combination of an item's scarcity and condition is designed to drive demand and price.

Danielle Lehrer, CEO of MTOMIC.COM says, "Our Digital Collectibles patent brings market forces to bear on both the value and demand for digital items. Essentially we've applied the criteria used to value traditional collectibles to digital content. Just like the world of fine art, as rarity, condition and demand increase, so does value."

MTOMIC.COM is a marketplace for content and digital collectibles where users can buy, sell, trade, swap and resell digital items at 'buy it now' prices or auction.

The MTOMIC marketplace operates as a closed economy where an item's scarcity is based on preset download limits and duplication is prevented by multi-layered system security. Each tradable item has a unique ID and full history including series number, issue date, rarity level, series trivia, trading history, condition and restoration history (please see illustrated examples attached).

With the application of physical wear and tear, based on where and how often an item is used, all digital items are no longer equal. And by introducing the economics of scarcity and condition to the digital realm, MTOMIC tradable content and digital collectibles will enjoy fair market value - driven by supply and demand.

"The ability to own something rare, something different, something that your peers value plays to our urges to socialise, compete and show off. It puts the thrill into digital content and changes the value proposition from 'nice-to-have' to 'MUST-have'," says Ms Lehrer.

"We envisage auctions of rare digital items or key items in a collectible series, or even items featuring popular or unusual wear & tear effects, driving bidding wars typical of share trading and popular eBay listings."

MTOMIC will collaborate with content producers and aggregators looking to increase the product lifecycle of typically short-lived chart busters and also generate revenue from back catalogue items by creating Collectible Series that can be collected and traded.

"If your ringtone is this week's No.1 hit it's old news by next Monday - unless it has a unique feature or is a key item in a Collectible Series. Then it's cool and sought after. It lives on as a Digital Collectible that can be traded or treasured!"

Digital Collectibles will appeal to a range of content consumers from mobile owners who want true personalisation (when every other person on the bus doesn't have your ringtone!) to gamers, traders and treasure-hunters.

The team's patent attorney Dr Chris Carter of Davies Collison Cave confirmed the patent filing and said, "Key elements of the Digital Collectibility patent enforce:

1. UNIQUE ID - collectibility data including series number, issue date, rarity level, series trivia, trading history, condition and restoration history;

2. SCARCITY - pre-set download availability/limits; version management of applied wear + tear and escalating scarcity of "mint condition" versions;

3. CONDITION - general usage wear + tear; and

4. CIRCUMSTANCE - location-based environmental wear + tear."

"The recent filing is the first step in MTOMIC's IP strategy to own Digital Collectibility worldwide."

The MTOMIC.COM online marketplace and mobile content trading application will enable users to buy, sell, collect and trade a wide variety of digital items via their mobile phone and any internet connected device.

Invest In Rare Coins For Profit
Buy Low and sell High This is easier said than done. What happens is collectors and investors wait till the market is moving up and then decide to buy at high prices. We all like a sale but why do we not buy gold and silver coins when the price is low? For the past 10 years coins have been on sale but not many have continued to buy rare coins to add to their portfolios.
